Sgt. Matthew B. Thomas, 22, of Fort Bragg, N.C., formerly of Lockhart, passed away Friday, June 12, 2009. He was born in San Marcos, Texas on June 14, 1986, to Ron Thomas, Sr. and Cathy Thomas.
He is preceded in death by his grandmother Charline Shuptrine.
Sgt. Thomas is survived by his daughters, Natalie and Charli Thomas and Cynthia, of Lockhart; father, Ron Thomas and wife, Ericka, of Tow, Texas; mother, Cathy Thomas, of Lockhart; brother, Ron Thomas, Jr.; sister Ankisa Thomas; grandparents, Bill Shuptrine and wife, Mary Ruth, Kathy Dollins and Glenn Thomas; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Sgt Matthew B. Thomas of Lockhart, Texas joined the Army in June 2004 and completed basic training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. The wheeled vehicle mechanic was part of the 82nd Airborne Division and has been awarded the Army Commendation Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and a National Defense Service Ribbon. He earned his Army parachutistβs badge at Fort Benning, Georgia. Matthew was killed at age 23 after suffering injuries from an automobile accident.

Matthew (Matt) was a great person and will be missed by friends and Family. I was very close to Matt and I was in the wreck with him when he passed away. We may have lost a great person and solider but he will never be forgotten. Thank you for everything and Rest In Peace.
I went by cici's today. Thought about us going there together for your first time. I got there first & ran in & paid for you before you got there. I was sick that day & couldn't eat. You never knew that & I just wanted to go to see you. I just ate my one piece & enjoyed lunch together before you had to be back at work. The next day you picked up papa johns & we went to your house & we ate papa johns. So much better anyways. I still remember the first time when we met in wal-mart to go to your house. You showed up with your black durag over your head & then told your roommates "she walked around walmart with me in my durag & she didn't even care". I smiled & told you "I like everything about you just the way you are". Yourself. You told me that was one of the things you liked about me. I accepted you for you. I miss you so much every single day & the time is not making it any easier. Keep watching over your sweet babys. I know you loved them more than anything in this world. If you see my dad let him know I love him & miss him. Please look over me, josh & my 2 babys. I know you liked them alot. I remember leaving Fort Bragg & going to wilmington beach for the weekend you told me Fort Bragg wasn't the same without me there & to hurry back you missed me when I called you on my way back. The truth is nothing is the same without you. We miss seeing you Dirty Birdy.

I can't believe your not here anymore. I miss your voice when you would call. I miss you stopping by the house. I miss your texts and smiles. I miss us going out. I miss you mooning me and showing me your tats. and every single thing about you. I miss you picking me up and trying to lift my spirits. I wish I could have been there for you like you were for me all those times. You were there to pick me up when I was to sick to walk litterly. You were there to make me eat when everything in my life was messing up and you knew I hadn't ate all day. I miss getting lunch and going to your house and eatting with your roomates. I miss you dropping me off at 5 in the morning so I wouldn't have to drive home to Bragg that early. I miss sleeping with you in your bed and laying on the couch together talking about what the future might bring and watching TV together. Just Chillin.....Thank you for everything you have done for me and I really wish I could tell you this in person. It seems like it's not real. It can't be. I don't want it to be. I can't breath without you here. I still miss you and love you so much. I will everyday with every breath I take.

Matt was a great friend and his unexpected death rattled a lot of people. My and my wife still have the clippings from his accident hanging up. He will never be forgotten. If you need more pics of Matt for his page i have several i can share. RIP buddy.
I have a scrapbook from when we were in High School, in the youth group at F.L.B.C, and on the second page is a photo of you when you were 15, looking so sweet. When I read the news of death, memories flooded in of the "new kid", fresh out of Home School, the crush of so many silly girls...You will be remembered fondly, Matt.

Matt was a great person and an even better friend! He will be missed terribly.... I didn't get to know Matt long before he's passing. But the time I did get to spend with him I'll never forget! I had gone up to Ft. Bragg to visit a friend and met Matt while I was there and we just instantly clicked. I knew from the moment i met him we would be good friends. I just wish that I could have spent more time with him! I just hope that his loving and amazing personality will live on in his 2 beautiful daughters! And his beautiful outlook on life live on in everyone that he knew and loved! WE MISS YOU MATT!!!!
